Working Group Social Geography

Geography occupies a central position in interdisciplinary migration research. Its typical task is the spatial recording, description, analysis and prognosis of migration processes and their consequences. The social-geographical perspective expands this field of activity to include a systematic reference to society and questions about the social significance of space in the global age. The geographical study of the connection between globalisation, migration and space therefore also includes critically reflecting on the forms of spatialisation of migration in everyday and scientific practice.

The research focus is part of the profile line P6 of Osnabrück University: Migration Societies

The core content is currently focused on: Geographies of migration, urban migration societies, superdiversity and cultural production, Islam on the ground, knowledge production, local and transnational migration regimes.
