Master of Art Economic and Social Geography
Please note:
The Masters degree Economic and Social Geography admittedstudents for the last time in the winter semester 2022/23 and will be phased out in its current profile from summer semester 2025.
The degree will be replaced by our new masters programme Master of Science "Geography: Society - Environment - Future"
Many of the big issues in current world affairs (pollution, globalisation, climate change, migration, sustainability, natural disasters) are geographical issues. The Institute of Geography in Osnabrück with its Master's programme in Economic and Social Geography is an excellent place to study these issues. Looking at economic and social processes with their mutual relationships and effects from a spatial perspective - that is the core of economic and social geography. The focus of the study course is on globalisation, trade, migration and urban research, as well as on society-environment relations.
Along with offering in-depth knowledge of economic and social geography, the programme places particular emphasis on quantitative and qualitative methodology and on teaching project skills and key qualifications. A special feature of the Master's programme are project-oriented courses - especially the two-semester study project. After a course in project management, students prepare their own research project and carry it out during a joint field stay abroad. In recent years, for example, the project was conducted in Argentina, Costa Rica, Sweden and Turkey. A film giving impressions of the study project in Argentina 2017 can be found here.
