The contents of the geography degree are as diverse as the fields of activity of geographers. Whether in research, teaching, physical geography, economic geography or urban planning: the Bachelor's programme provides the basic knowledge and methods. For example: in addition to the essential questions of geography, challenges in the theory of science are also considered here. Natural and social science working methods are also introduced from a geographical perspective and the methods and techniques of scientific work are taught.
Specifically, it covers the tasks and methods of
- regional research - sub-areas of applied geography (such as urban development, economic development, leisure and tourism, environmental policies, planning policies, nature and environmental protection)
- basic processes and manifestations of the solid earth systems (geology, geomorphology, soil science)
- water & climate (climatology, hydrology)
- living beings (vegetation geography, ecozones of the earth)
- basics of social geography (social processes from a spatial perspective)
- basics of economic geography (location theories, economic basics)
- methods and working methods of cartography - methods of spatial visualisation
- basic structures of global society-environment relationships
- principles and goals of the sustainability concept
- regional development policy
In fact, the broad spectrum of topics covered by the programme deals with human-environment relations as well as migration and globalisation in all their many facets.
