The Master's degree programme prepares students in a unique way for various practical geographic fields and professional activities through its applicational orientation.
The skills and competences that students will acquire in the Master's programme "Geography: Society - Environment - Future" are increasingly in demand on the job market.
- In public administration (e.g. municipal environmental officers and climate managers, district and city managers, economic development officers)
- in consultancies (e.g. business and municipal consultancies)
- in the energy industry
- in urban, regional and environmental planning and development
- in tourism, in non-governmental organisations

there is an increasing need for specialists with interface expertise in the environmental field - exemplified by the significantly increasing demand for environmental or climate officers in municipalities.
The orientation to non-university professional fields is supported within the framework of the degree programme by the two-month professional internship as well as the regular exchange with former geography students who are now successfully working in various professional fields. In addition, the Master's programme "Geography: Society - Environment - Future" offers the opportunity to prepare intensively for various professional fields through a regular programme of applied seminars conducted by lecturers from the field. Examples are courses that deal with activities in economic development, in real estate management, in climate management or in local transport planning.
Graduates with strong research skills can pursue a doctorate after an above-average performance in the Master's programme "Geography: Society - Environment - Future" and thus qualify for a scientific career at research institutions and universities.
